Steve's original acoustic jazz trio played in public together from 2013 to 2021, with a straight-ahead lyrical style inspired by Keith Jarrett's acoustic piano trio.
The trio played in numerous public settings, including Egan's Ballard Jam House, Darrell's Tavern, Village Wines in Woodinville, as well as many private parties and other events.
Mike Eaton (drums) has been playing drums in the Seattle area with various groups for over 40 years. His love for jazz has been his main focus for the last 10 years, including playing with the Steve Jones Trio as well as with the Bainbridge Island Book Club Jazz Band and Eastside-based Pacific Cascade Big Band. His formal studies include private study with Mark Ivester as well as a participant at the Centrum Jazz Festival. Mike makes his home in Monroe, Washington.
Paul Storz (bass) has played bass regularly since his college days in Bay Area clubs, playing in a variety of genres, including high energy band The Schematics. Seeking the more mature sound of the double bass, Paul studied classically for several eyars with Seattle's premier bass instructor Anna Doak, performing the classical bass repertoire through various recitals in the area. Since then, Paul has become increasingly involved with jazz bass, studying with Seattle's own bass powerhouse Clipper Anderson, and has enjoyed holding down the bottom end with the Steve Jones Trio.
Steve Jones (piano) has been playing jazz piano since 2008. He studied with Seattle's Dave Peck and Darin Clendenin. In 2013 Steve was invited to play piano with the Music Center of the Northwest big band, playing gigs around the Seattle area. In this band, he met the trio's soon to be bass player, Paul Storz. In 2018 Steve played with Route 66, a local big band, and in 2019 and into 2020, focused on his trio, preferring chamber music to larger ensemble playing. Steve is enthusiastic about the lyrical styles of jazz artists like Keith Jarrett, Michel Petrucciani, and Bill Evans, who have influenced his playing.
