The Jones Boys Jazz Quartet - Featuring Bob Jones, Classic Jazz Vocalist

This fabulous group plays well-established jazz standards for captive audiences throughout the greater Seattle area. The centerpiece of this group is vocalist Bob Jones, who delivers a compelling message with his Sinatra-style singing, backed by a piano trio.

The group is often referred to as "The Jones Boys" because the vocalist and pianist both have the same last name-- Jones. The show typically plays off this theme in a lighthearted way.

The Jones Boys carefully selects volunteer gigs at places where audiences understand and appreciate the Sinatra sound, as well as other earlier jazz styles, such as those from Bill Evans, Miles Davis, and the like. We do not play for money, but for the enjoyment and satisfaction of bringing the music we love to the right audience.

Bob Jones (vocalist) is a Puget Sound native, who was raised on the American Songbook, but didn't begin his jazz singing until later in life. It all began with friends encouraging him to try out with a local community big band. Since then, Bob has sung with the Pacific Cascade Big Band, The Jazz Misfits, and Big Mischief. Bob has also performed publicly at various venues, including Tula's, North City Bistro, and Egan's Ballard Jam House. Some of Bob's biggest influences are Johnny Hartman, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Seattle favorite Greta Matassa.

Stuart Laughlin (drums) has been playing drums in the Seattle area with many groups for over 40 years, and brings a wealth of styles and textures to the quartet.

Dennis Gathard (bass) has been playing stringed instruments since 1964 when a traveling musician's car broke down in front of his father's bar. The trade of an abused guitar for an equally abused car started his involvement with blues, rock, blue grass, and finally, in 1980, jazz. He has played in ensembles around the northwest since 1977 and jazz ensembles in Seattle since 1986. For the last 15 years, he has primarily played double bass with different groups in the Seattle area.

Steve Jones (piano) has been playing jazz piano since 2008. He studied with Seattle's Dave Peck and Darin Clendenin and takes his musical influences from Keith Jarrett, Michel Petrucciani, Dave Peck, Bill Evans, and many others.
